River Otter (Tipton St John) (12)
Installation of 95m of block stone erosion protection with pre filled erosion protection geo-textile above. The site was directly upstream of the confluence of River Otter and Metcombe brook both of which are significant migratory routes and spawning sites for trout and salmon. The site is upstream of the Otter Estuary SSSI. Additionally the site was identified as having significant native crayfish and otter activity along with being a nesting site for Sand Martins and Kingfisher. Himalayan Balsam was present in the works area. -
Smestow Brook (14)
In May 2011 we completed aproject for South Staffordshire Council to install 300m of river bank erosion protection and increase flood storage capacity. Arisings from historical dredging works had raised the bank opposite Hinksford Caravan Park preventing the natural over topping into the water meadow during high flows. This was resulting in accelerated bank erosion and loss of land at the Caravan Park. In association with 3rd Party consultants South Staffordshire Council developed a design incorporating sheet piles, slope stabilization and bank re-profiling in the worst effected areas totalling 240m on each bank, for which we successfully tendered -
