Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs)

Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL) are factory manufactured hydraulic barriers consisting of bentonite clay sandwiched between geotextiles and /or geomembranes. They are held together by needle punching or stitching and are typically 7-10mm thick when hydrated.

The GCL is probably equivalent to 5-600mm of compacted clay.

Bentoline GCLs are formed from a layer of Sodium bentonite crystals encapsulated between two geotextile layers.
