Brushwood faggots used to narrow stream in Winchester, the photo on the right show the result three years later. The narrowing has increased the water velocity, naturally removing the silt from the stream bed. The water on the outside of the faggots has slowed and marginal aquatic plants have naturally established on the stream edge.

Bund constructed of brushwood faggots, in order to encourage silt accretion behind bund. During construction 200mm of silt had accreted.

Faggot mattress used to stabalise silt below outfall. The mattress will natuarlly accrete silt.
